I am not normally a morning person (ok this is an understatement- think grumpy dishevelled troll). But today for some reason I was awake at 5am, and after wasting a bit of time scrolling meaninglessly on my phone I decided to do something a bit more productive and go for a run. I managed a very gentle interval parkrun yesterday as my first run post-surgery and it felt ok. So I made myself a low-key interval session on my Garmin and headed out to see how it felt.
Man alive, I did not expect it to be so beautiful! I had a false start because after only 30 seconds running I just had to stop and take in the view. It was still pretty dark initially, with a thick a layer of mist across the grass, but the most gorgeous sunrise was shining through.
Fired up by the stunningness of my surroundings I did my run intervals slightly faster than I’d intended, but actually I felt great. So hopefully it’s onwards and upwards from today. I did 0.2 miles running with 0.1 miles walk, recover, take photos of amazing sunrise, repeat x 7!
So even if you aren’t usually a morning person, should the feeling unexpectedly arise I can highly recommend the early bird run. I was only out for twenty minutes, and by the end of the session it was all over – you’d never have known that the most beautiful sunrise had ever even happened. I feel so lucky my running took me out there to see it.
Beautiful! I’ve always been a morning person, although lately not by choice. But I’m kinda afraid to run on an empty stomach. Does it not have any effect then? Running would be a better use of my time then going online, for sure!

I’m fine up until about 10k (although I always have a cup of tea first), but it’s quite individual. I can stomach half a banana shortly before a run so if you had something small as soon as you got up you’d probably be fine by the time you were dressed. Go for it!

Those sunrise pictures are really beautiful. Around 6:00 this time of year is a wonderful time to run in my part of Canada. The world around me is just waking up. I don’t get out as often as I like that time of day, but when I do it is so much appreciated. 🙂

Beautiful pictures! I’m more of an evening runner but I often take a short walk in the mornings to set me up for the day.
